After spending much of 2013 focusing on his R&B supergroup TGT -- which also features Tyrese and Tank -- Ginuwine shifted his attention to his solo work with the planned 2014 release of a new album titled Old School Young -- his first solo recording since 2011's Elgin. His successful stint with TGT included the release of an album titled Three Kings, which hit No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart, and a tour that had fans snapping up tickets for concerts in major performing arts centers.
Ginuwine, born Elgin Baylor Lumpkin, is a native of Washington, D.C. who grew up listening to the music of Michael Jackson and Prince, which inspired him to begin performing. After he was discovered by the R&B group Jodici in 1996, he was signed by Epic Records and released his debut album, titled Ginuwine... The Bachelor. It spawned the hit single "Pony," which is a good example of his influential brand of hip-hop soul. Among the other hits in Ginuwine's catalog, which inspired young stars like Ne-Yo and Chris Brown, are "Differences," "In Those Jeans," and "So Anxious."
My fiancé and I are WOWED by Ginuwine’ performance!!! He gave it his all!!! And Blackstreet sang soooo sweet, they moved like they were 20 year olds!!! All was in time sharp for 9pm!!! Best best best concert and we have been to ice cube and many more!! This concert was epic!!! Soooo happy!!
It was an amazing concert. Ginuwine has a great voice and us STILL fit.
My ladies and I drove out to Detroit from Toronto Ontario to see this highly anticipated concert. We were so pumped to see Jagged Edge above the rest because we are HUGE fans. Ginuwine gave on hell of a performance , he simply took the cake! Unfortunately Jagged Edge did not perform for very long and that was a waste of time for us. I really wish they would have put on a show like Ginuwine did and give the fans a little more. We walked out of there feeling let down by JE...:(
R&B isn't like this anymore and that's a shame! Ginuwine put on a fantastic show, his voice, the band, everything was perfect. I was lucky enough to be in NYC when he came through (BB Kings is a great venue) but I would definitely go see him again if he plays in Vancouver or Seattle. Great show, highlight of my trip!
We were in NYC, coming from Montreal last weekend and went at the Ginuwine concert. It was sooooo much more than expected. He gave a great performance, connecting with the audience and delivered his biggest hits. The venue was really nice too. The ambiance was perrrfect! No drama, just grown people having fun ! WOW
